As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), I recently managed a sensitive decision involving the access and safety of a child. I researched and reviewed complex documentation (Court Orders and reports from specialists), analysed information referring to Disputed Care Provisions under Sec 51 of the Child Support (Assessment) Act 1989; and made detailed notes. I then contacted external government agencies, ensuring privacy was maintained for the child’s parents. I made and executed the decision to apply special circumstances. I explained to stakeholders the reasoning behind my decision, in line with the Child Support Guide; how the decision would impact both Child Support and Centrelink payments; and provided options moving forward, including referrals to assist the parents and child with additional support. I also collaborated with the policy team to review, redevelop and implement major changes to the decision-making assessment process; and identified and escalated system-related issues to the Program Support Manager. Finally, I compiled a weekly spreadsheet for system updates, which reduced processing time by 30%.
